The Adventure Begins - Part 2

Yesterday we were picked up at Mark and Jane's house in LA and driven to the ship. Because we are on the world cruise, Crystal provided the transportation. I'm not sure how much luggage they thought we had, but it was a mega-size vehicle that came for us!
Since it was a Sunday there was no traffic and we made it to the ship in 30 minutes.

Once on board we were quickly checked in, served canapes and mimosas, introduced to the Captain and escorted to our room.

Since we'll be on the ship for 3 months, we decided to book a Penthouse room so we'd have more space than in the Veranda staterooms we usually book. The room is wonderful! Plenty of storage, 2 desk/vanity areas, a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a large shower, double sinks and a jacuzzi tub. There's a king size bed and a sofa, chair and small table in the living area. The balcony is large enough for 2 padded chairs, 2 padded ottomans and a small table.

Then our butler, Marcello, stopped by to introduce himself. Marcello is from Brazil. We had been concerned that we wouldn't know what to do with a butler but quickly realized that he is going to be very helpful in a number of ways over the course of the trip.

After unpacking, we showered and went off to the Welcome Celebration. It started at 5:30pm with music, dancing and cocktails followed by a delicious dinner and a show. We ran into Sandy (from Longboat Key) during the cocktail hour and were seated with 3 other interesting couples for dinner.

The show was wonderful! Tony award winning producer Kevin McCollum was honored and the featured singer was Broadway star Heidi Blickenstaff. She is a singer and actress known for Freaky Friday (2018), First You Dream: The Music of Kander & Ebb (2015) and The Rebound (2009). She was also Ursula in the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid and played the role of the role of Bea in Something Rotten!  She was beyond amazing and we could have listened to her sing all night. Kevin McCollum is creating a musical of the movie Mrs. Doubtfire and Heidi sang some songs that will be in it - songs that had their first public debut at the show last night.

This morning we slept in and went to the 'Late Riser' breakfast. After that we walked around the ship stopping in at the spa, gym, computer lab and specialty restaurants.

Passengers who are not on the world cruise are checking in today and the ship is all decked out for their arrival.

At 5:15pm there is a muster drill and we set sail at 6pm. Then the adventure really begins!

Hobart / Mon & Tue Feb 12 & 13

We're docked in Hobart for a day and a half. Hobart is the capitol and largest city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. It's also the second oldest capitol in Australia. Yesterday we went on a private tour with Karin and Joe - a couple from Georgia that we've gotten to know. We took a hike in beautiful Mt. Field National Park, went to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and saw a number of other scenic and historical sites.  To get to Mount Field National Park we drove along the Derwent River. The National Park was quite scenic. We took a long walk and saw some beautiful waterfalls, huge trees and the random wallaby (small kangaroo).   Russell Falls   After Mount Field we had lunch at a cute local restaurant located on the river. Our waitress had an interesting story to tell us about a Zombie Run she'd taken recently in Auckland. Crazy! After lunch we spent a bit of time looking for a platypus. Our tour guide found one in the river n...

We're On Our Way!

Guests who are not on the world cruise boarded the ship on Monday. Since we boarded on Sunday and were already unpacked, we spent much of the day exploring the ship and going to the gym. At 5:15 there was a 'Muster Drill'. Fortunately we didn't need to bring our life jackets with us. At 6pm we set sail and the USC Marching Band played as we sailed off. After dinner we went to a variety show called 'Crystal in Motion' and from there we headed to the Atrium to watch the balloon drop. The balloon drop is the final part of the Bon Voyage World Cruise Countdown. Waiters handed out champagne while a quartet played music and a singer belted out tunes. The captain gave a toast and then balloons dropped as confetti rained down. Quite a fun end to the World Cruise Countdown Party! The Captain making a toast. Balloons starting to drop Lots of balloons and lots of confetti flying.. Today is Wednesday and we're on our 2nd of 5 sea days. Our fir...

The Adventure Begins - Part One

It's now less than 24 hours before we head out on our adventure! We are so grateful to have wonderful friends who are sending us off in style. Steve and Tresa planned a lovely Bon Voyage dinner for our last night on the Ranch. The dinner included a signature blue drink (yummy!) and a Bon Voyage cake. Kim and Don sent us off with a fun and super creative touch ... personalized Bon Voyage napkins! We used some of them but the rest are coming with us on the ship. I wonder if the butler for our cabin has ever had someone provide their own personalized napkins! Signature Drink Bon Voyage cake, signature drink and gifts! Bon Voyage Cake & Napkins Other friends have called or sent emails and e-cards to wish us bon voyage - too many to mention individually, but it means so much to us. Thanks to each and every one of you! Now that we're ready to head out I can finally answer the question - "how many suitcases are you taking?" The answer is 5 large ...
